Careers at Ubundi

Entrepreneur-in-Residence - Multiplayer / Teams Spinout

Department: tootoo
Location: Cape Town (Open to exceptional remote candidates; time-zone overlap required)
Role: Full-time

About Ubundi

Ubundi is a South-African venture studio shaping human-centred AI. Our name reflects our core belief in Ubuntu principles. Our tech prioritises the collective while empowering the individual.

Our Culture

We live the Ubuntu idea: “I am because we are.” That means high trust, radical candor, and respect for life outside the terminal—build great things without becoming the product. We prize craft, curiosity, and constructive provocation; we’d rather experiment and learn in daylight than polish in secrecy. Bring your whole self, pull up a chair, and let’s make technology that makes AI more human.

About the product

tootoo is an identity-layer product: a “Codex” that captures what matters to a person (values, beliefs, goals) so AI conversations can be grounded in human context.

We’re exploring a multiplayer/teams spinout: a B2B product aimed at SMEs and teams who need faster alignment (for humans and agents), better decisions, and shared context in an AI-centric world. The exact wedge and feature set will be discovered and proven in-market.

About the EIR role

This is a builder role designed for a founder-type operator. You will lead customer development, validate the multiplayer/teams thesis in-market, and drive early go-to-market with design partners and initial customers. The product foundation already exists. Your role is to help determine what should be improved, changed, narrowed, or emphasised next so that we can move from working MVP to initial product-market fit. If the spinout proves viable, there is a clear path to step into a cofounder/CEO role.

What you’ll own (responsibilities)

You will be accountable for outcomes across customer development, product direction, and initial GTM:

  • Customer development: run high-cadence interviews and field work with SMEs/teams; develop and iterate on a clear problem thesis, ICP, and “why now”.
  • Product direction and iteration: use customer insight and design partner feedback to guide the team on how the existing product should evolve; help prioritise what to improve, simplify, add, remove, or reposition in order to increase activation, retention, and willingness to pay.
  • Design partner programme: recruit 5–10 design partners; implement structured pilots; build a repeatable onboarding + activation playbook.
  • Initial GTM: define positioning and packaging for teams; validate willingness to pay; secure initial paid pilots; establish early retention and expansion signals.
  • Spinout readiness: shape the spinout plan (team, roadmap, economics, operating model); define what must be true for a cofounder transition.

You might be a fit if:

  • You're a former founder and looking for a new idea to sink your teeth into
  • You're keen to take a leap of faith to work alongside a world-class team
  • You have a superpower in connecting with humans and getting doors opened
  • You have vibe-coded an internal or personal-use tool and have used agentic AI to help you get stuff done
  • You have had prior success in especially the zero-to-one phase of all things GTM
  • You’re a curious builder who likes to figure things out, especially when the path isn’t clear
  • You’re process-driven but not afraid to improvise
